[Braze-mas 2023, Day 12]

What’s up everyone, my name is Allan, Founder and Consultant at For Now Marketing, and welcome to Day 12 of Braze-mas 2023!

Before we get started, if you have any questions, whether you are currently using Braze or considering using Braze, please feel free to reach out! You can find these addresses and more in the Youtube description below.

Today’s video, we are going to talk about the Delivery and Entry Types in Braze! This is one of the building aspects of Campaigns and Canvases, and we’ll do a deep dive into each types and cover some different scenarios.

Let’s get started!

Campaign vs Canvas: Delivery vs Entry

First, for Campaigns, they’re called Delivery Types. You can find this page on page 2 of the Campaign builder, and they’re called Delivery Types because Campaigns are actually going to deliver and send the message at the selected Delivery time.

For Canvases, we have the exact same 3 types, but they’re called Entry Types. That’s because a Canvas itself does not send the messages. A Canvas is a user journey, and the individual Canvas journey steps send the messages. However, what we’re choosing on the page 2 of the Canvas builder is when your users will be entering this Canvas, starting from the very top of the Canvas journey.

Campaign Delivery Types

So let’s get started with Campaign Delivery Types. The first type we have is Scheduled.

Scheduled

Scheduled is your classic, traditional, scheduled send. You set the time for when the message will send, launch the campaign, and the message gets sent at that time. You have some options for Scheduled type:

Send as soon as Campaign is launched

1. Send as soon as Campaign is launched. This is an option. However, most teams choose the next option.

Send at a designated time

2. Send at a designated time. You can set the exact start time and date, launch the Campaign, and let Braze do the work. With this option, you can give yourself some buffer time in case you need to make some changes before the actual launch time.

Local Time Zone

There’s two additional options to consider here. First, you can send this message to users in their local time zone. So the time that we see right now is in your dashboard time, which mine is set to Pacific Time. So with this current setup, all users will receive this message at 12pm Pacific Time on December 13th. One product request, if Braze can specify that the current time is set to Company Timezone, that would be great!

However, if we check the local time zone check box, then users will get this message at 12pm at their local time, not at Pacific Time. This means that depending on where the user is located, Braze will be sending out messages at different times.

Notice the warning that we get: Users must remain in the targeted segment for a full 24 hours to ensure message delivery. So please keep this in mind when using this option and make sure to launch your campaign more than 24 hours before the first potential send.

Send Frequency

The other option to check out is the send frequency. So it’s set to Send Once by default, but we can also change this to Send Daily, which then gives us Recurrence options, from every 1 day all the way to every 30 days.

We also get options for Ending parameters: so we have “Never ends”, “On a specific date”, and “After a specific number of occurrences”.

If we change the send frequency to Weekly, then we get another cool option where we can actually choose which specific days of the week we’d like this Campaign to send.

And then lastly, we have the monthly option. Now the only thing I’m not sure about is whether this is actually monthly, as in this campaign will send on the exact same date of the following month, so if our first message sent on December 13th, then the next message will send on January 13th, AND if this were the case, then what happens if my first message sends on January 31st? Will the next message send sometime in early March, since February does not have 31 days?

OR does the monthly setting result to every 30 days?

Braze, if you’re watching this, please share your answer in the comments below!

Thank you!

That’s it for Day 12. We will continue with Delivery and Entry Types in the next video.
